As fellow Texans, we are proud to partner with BlindAssassin to vendor his new project!
Introducing ASTRO DOMES! These silicone domes are used in electrocapacitive keyboards that follow the conventional Topre-style EC Switch assembly (conical spring and rubber dome atop a PCB-based electrocapacitive sensor). Odds are if you're looking for these, you already know what these are!
Launch Promotion: Get a limited edition 500g "Texas Tea" dome strip with any dome order!
A full description from BlindAssassin:
- The goal of Astro Domes was to replicate the feel of OG BKE and BKE Redux, meaning a snappy, highly tactile dome, but with a closed top in order to have a better sounding build overall. I can confidently say we have achieved that goal with ease. So no more need to make WTB posts for ridiculous amounts of money only to be short a few domes for your build and waiting another year to find more.
- Now you might be wondering, what is with these names? Well bless your heart, Astro Domes are themed around cities in Texas (mostly). Shiner, Pepper, Weird, Lean, Fiesta, and Big D reference the cities Shiner, Waco, Austin, Houston, San Antonio, and Dallas (respectively). The name, Astro Domes, is also a reference to the famous stadium in Houston. And another fun fact, the top of each dome is a T20 torx drive, so do with that what you will.
- We have options for those with weaker fingies, or monster mitts, so there should be an option that works for you! Just be careful if your frail fingies aren't ready for the heft of the Big D, don't want those fingers breaking off now do we?
Pack Quantities:
- Standard packs: All of the same dome weight, 8x 1U strips, and 1x 2U strip (4 domes per strip, 36 domes total)
- Sample packs: 1x Shiner, 1x Pepper, 1x Weird, 1x Lean, 1x Fiesta strip (1x Big D strip will be added once ready)
What is a 2U dome?
- Like the original BKE/BVE domes found in vintage SONY boards, 2U's have little wings that allow for more area of the slider to bottom out on the dome. Acts as a more consistent landing pad and prevents slider wobble ever causing contact with the PCB.
Weights:*
- Shiner (Amber): 35g
- Pepper (Burgundy): 50g
- Weird (Green/Black): 70g
- Lean (Purple): 90g
- Fiesta (Teal/Pink/Orange Swirl): 120g
- Big D (Blue/Gray Swirl): 160g [To be released at a later date]
- Texas Tea (Crude Oil Brown): 500g [Limited time gift with any dome order]
*Weights are measured without a spring and are averaged. Listed weight is at the peak of the tactile bump. Some variation is expected.

- Shiner: Lighter than all BKE Redux options
- Pepper: BKE Redux Ultra Light
- Weird: BKE Redux Light
- Lean: BKE Redux Heavy
- Fiesta: BKE Redux Extreme
- Big D: Heavier than all BKE Redux options
- Texas Tea: Like breaking your fingers, but now with a cup of sugar in your daily cup of crude oil.
